I have heard of Octane and heard that it's fast. I am not sure if my methods are as good as those who uses it for longer period, but with simple quick lighting setups are giving me something close to what I expecting. Really like the dome light HDRI light info. I didn't really use arnold before until previous once in maya and now in houdini. Well if sideFX have a plan on improving the speed of mantra that will be a great news. It's next on my list to try.no idea how it performsĪgreed on the Mantra volume shader part. I haven't used it yet myself though.Īnd finally, there is renderman. There's also Octane which is supposingly very fast. It even does volume vector displacement, which is pretty damn cool. The cool thing with arnold is that it has a very good volume rendering algorithm. I'm really looking forward to see how Arnnold's gpu rendering will compare to it. Still some issues with transparencies ect. Custom AOV's has just been implemented recently for example. It's pretty damn fast.but then again, there is still things that it can't do. When it comes to geometry rendering, we use Redshift here at Stormborn. I really hope sideFX has plans to change that. It's native understanding of houdini instances and packed geometry is also a huge advantage over other renderers.īut yeah, it's unfortunately not the fastest. It gives you the most flexibility and control. GoranPavles wrote:I still like using Mantra for volume renders in houdini.
